MORE than 20 charity supporters have raised more than £13,000 for Mary Stevens Hospice through a series of skydives.

Hospice supporters took part in the skydive days on a number of dates between September 30 and October 21 at Hinton Airfield, although one jumper went as far as Australia to complete his dive over Sydney Harbour Bridge to raise funds for the charity.

In total, 22 supporters made the jump to bring in much-needed funds for the hospice in Hagley Road which cares for patients and families battling life-limiting illnesses.

Ruth Longville, event organiser at Mary Stevens Hospice, said: “Each one is an absolute inspiration and the difference an amount like that will make to families here is just overwhelming to think about.

"A couple of the guys had to overcome their phobias to take part and in doing so they have made our care possible for someone in their hour of greatest need which is just the most remarkable achievement."

Hospice bosses say there has already been a spike in the number of people booking to take on the challenge next year off the back of this year's fundraising drive and they are expecting to have to organise more days in 2019.

Ruth added: "We're probably going to have to find a bigger plane.”

Hospice skydiver Jemma Mondon said in the moments before the plane took off she was thinking 'what have I signed up to?' but she added: "I'm so glad I did it, it's one of the most amazing experiences of my life and knowing that doing it will mean the charity can care for a family in need is just such a wonderful feeling."
