PARENTS of children at Gig Mill Primary School in Norton are warned to be vigilant after reports a man in a taxi approached a child and offered them sweets.

The incident is reported to have happened in Norton Road on Tuesday November 6 at around 3.30pm.

A message has been sent out to parents by the school warning them to be vigilant following the scare which reportedly involved a black taxi cab.

The child, who was accompanied by a parent at the time of the incident, was unharmed.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police confirmed the incident had been reported and said: "It’s believed a five-year-old was offered a sweet but handed it back to the man.

"We would always remind parents to speak to their children about ‘stranger danger’ and to call us immediately if they notice any suspicious activity."
