TWO young sisters are rallying support for a festive concert to help cancer patients.

Fundraisers Mollie and Isobel Ovenden have been signing up companies to help make the Shepherd Group Brass Band’s festive concert go with a swing.

The band is lending its services free of charge for the event at The Hive in Manor CE Academy, Nether Poppleton, in aid of York Against Cancer.

The musicians had approached City of York Council leader Ian Gillies to ask if he would help find a home for the concert.

His granddaughters Mollie, 14, and Isobel, 11, are both students at Manor and they secured The Hive for the event. The girls have enlisted local firms to provide raffle prizes – and they’ll be helping with refreshments, collections and clearing up after the concert.

The concert is at The Hive at 7.30pm on Friday. For tickets, £5, visit York Against Cancer’s office in 31 North Moor Road, Huntington, buy online at www.yorkagainst cancer.org.uk/events or phone on 01904 764466.
