A WELLBEING cafe in Stourbridge town centre will be closing down at the end of the month.

Food For Thought, based on Victoria Street, is run by mental health charity Dudley Mind and all proceeds from the cafe contribute towards supporting people in the community with mental health problems.

After its closure, the building will remain the property of Dudley Mind and will be used as a meeting place for peer support groups and other activities.

The cafe had operated for a year but charity chiefs say the tough decision to close it had to be made due to high operational costs, lack of footfall, location and cafe competition within Stourbridge town centre.

Dave Tyler, chairman of the trustees of Dudley Mind, said: “It became clear over time that we could not continue to operate the ‘Food for Thought’ cafe due to viability issues and we needed to act swiftly to safeguard our service users and the future income and expenditure of the charity.

"We remain committed to providing quality support to our current and future service users at this location, minus the cafe."

He added: "At the same time we would encourage anyone interested in supporting Dudley Mind as a member or fundraiser to contact our Chief Executive Sandra Vaughan on 01384 442938 or sandra.vaughan@dudleymind.org.uk.”
