DUDLEY South MP Mike Wood has said he will vote for Theresa May’s Brexit deal in tonight’s crucial vote in Parliament.

Tory MP Wood, the only Black Country MP to support Brexit, had previously indicated he could not vote for it without changes regarding the backstop issue but this evening he told the News “at this point I’ll probably vote with the government on the motion” as he wants to be able to tell voters at the next election “we’ve left the EU like we told you”.

He added: “I’m certainly not happy with parts of it but it’s our best chance of being sure we leave the EU and return control to all those voters who voted for it.”

Mr Wood, however, said he does not believe the main motion will pass tonight and he added: “There’s a big risk - particularly with the Speaker and one or two Conservative MPs conspiring to frustrate Brexit altogether.”

He said first and foremost he would be backing one of the amendments to the main vote looking at limits on the backstop which he said was his “biggest concern”.
