A ROUNDABOUT is needed to make the “lethal” C77 safer, it has been claimed.
At Wednesday’s meeting of Galashiels Community Council, Tom Douglas, who lives near the road said more needed to be done to improve the flow of traffic.
He added: “The C77 is an extremely dangerous road.
“There are more and more vehicles using it and there are congestion problems at the junction [with the Melrose Road].
“There has been talk for a while about installing a roundabout. This needs to happen. This road is lethal.”
Local policeman James Harrison said he would monitor the situation on the Gala to Lauder route.
He added: “The road layout is a matter for the council, but we can concentrate on the road safety aspect.”
A council representative said: “That junction is ridiculous. This item needs chased up and I will do that.”
