A Cradley councillor was spotted parking illegally just one day before her colleague appealed for residents to snap people flouting the law on dash cams and mobiles.

Councillor Gaye Partridge was parked on double yellow lines and mounting the pavement on Colley Lane on Tuesday February 12, at around 2.30pm.

She has admitted she was "bang out of order" and has offered to give the equivalent of the £70 fine the offence would have incurred to charity.

Cllr Partridge's fellow Cradley councillor Richard Body came up with the 'Together We Can' scheme which Dudley Council is running, appealing for people to upload images of fly tipping, graffiti and driving offences to the council's website so it can take action.

James Clinton, Conservative candidate for Cradley, said: "I attended a public meeting in Christ Church, Lye, where another of Cradley’s incumbent councillors told the public in that meeting to buy dash cams and to wear them like a GoPro and to report the evidence to the council.

"His words were: 'If you catch an idiot or a moron doing anything wrong report them. We will reward you with a treat, maybe free swimming.'

"I’d like to ask that incumbent councillor if his ward colleague is included in his 'Together we Can' scheme?

"And can I claim my free swimming prize, so I can gift it to some deprived local children."

Mr Clinton also said the 'Safer Routes to School Scheme' had recently been rolled out to make it safer for children on their way to and from Colley Lane Primary.

He said: "The incumbent councillor who was caught parking irresponsibly was part of this scheme’s creation but chose that day to ignore the parking restrictions near the school."

Cllr Partridge said: "Together We Can is a really important initiative it just goes to show that the community is the eyes and the ears and no-one is above the law. It's a £70 fine for what I did. I'm happy to donate that amount to charity.

"I'm bang to rights."

Cllr Partridge said she was on the double yellow lines for about two minutes as she went to check whether a van was blocking the entrance to Colley Lane community centre where she was set to attend a meeting. But she said it was "no excuse."

Alan Lunt, deputy chief executive at Dudley Council, said: “Anyone caught parking illegally by our enforcement team will be issued with a fixed penalty notice.

"In this particular case, photographic evidence provided by the public is legally insufficient to issue a notice.”
