A BRAVE 20-year-old fought off a knife-wielding assailant in a frightening night-time attack on a Halesowen street.

The man was walking along Long Lane, Shell Corner, near the junction with Green Lane, on Wednesday evening (April 3) when he was approached by another man who demanded money.

The victim's father, who did not wish to be named, said his son had successfully fought off the attacker, who subsequently fled.

The dad said: "My son was pushed and shoved by a man who wanted his money.

"They got into a scuffle and it was then that my son saw a knife had dropped on to the floor.

"My son is pretty tall, about 5ft 10, but the other man was taller. My son was a little shaken because it all happened so suddenly."

The victim suffered facial wounds during the scuffle and was taken by ambulance to Russells Hall Hospital for treatment.

His father said his son had described the assailant as a black male aged 20-25, about 6ft tall and fairly built.

Police are seeking witnesses to the attack which happened at about 7.45pm on Wednesday.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "A man in his 20s was approached by another man who demanded money and tried to take things out of his pocket.

"The victim fought off the offender and sustained injuries to his head after being punched a number of times.

"He managed to run away before calling an ambulance.
