A BRIERLEY HILL community has reacted in shock to the discovery of scores of oil soaked ducks and geese on their estate.
Residents on the the Lockside Estate, just off Brettell Lane, are 'fuming' after the birds, ducks and geese were discovered covered in oil.
They believe the creatures have been tarred in oil from the nearby canal that runs past the estate.
Resident Gill Lawson said she had spotted 16 Canada geese, eight ducks and seven or eight hens and coots alone, but there could be more.
She said: "Something needs to be done."
Gill was desperate to help the oil stricken creatures and called the RSPA, RSPCB, the Canal Trust and the Fire Service to help them.
A spokesperson from the RSPCA said: "Having received a report this morning, Friday April 5, about ‘oiled’ geese at the canal off Brettell Lane, Brierley Hill in Dudley, the RSPCA has visited the site to assess the birds’ condition.
"The worst affected birds will be taken to an expert facility where they will be assessed and given treatment."
