A STOURBRIDGE motorist has told how he was the victim of a terrifying carjacking in the town's Old Quarter at the weekend.

The man, in his early 60s, took to social media site Next Door to warn others to be on their guard after the frightening experience in Pargeter Street yesterday (Sunday April 7) during which he was assaulted.

He said he had just parked his black Mercedes E350 saloon and opened the door after turning from Worcester Street, between 4pm and 4.30pm, when a man wearing a hoodie and white scarf over his mouth and nose held the door and said 'give me the key'.

He continued: "I responded appropriately and he pulled me out of the car and threw me to the pavement.

"He kept saying 'give me the key' as he punched me five times on the side of my head. I tried to throw the key under the car but it fell in the gutter.

"The assailant picked it up and jumped into the driver's seat.

"An accomplice ran up but when he saw his mate in my car he ran back to a white Mercedes C class.

"Both cars then did three wheel turns and sped turning right onto Worcester Street narrowly missing other cars."

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said the incident was being investigated and urged anyone with information to contact officers via Live Chat at west-midlands.police.uk, between 8am and midnight, or call 101 anytime - quoting 20DY/83956H/19.

Alternatively people can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

The victim is now urging others to check their surroundings before opening their car doors and to keep them locked until it looks safe to get out.
