SHE might not quite be dodging Dracula or warding off werewolves but a Halesowen fundraiser admits tackling a Transylvania trek is going to be a testing task.

Izzy Feeney, 23, of Colley Gate, is set to trek the Carpathian mountains - also known as the Transylvanian Alps - in Southern Romania in aid of mental health charity Mind later this year.

The former Hagley Catholic High School pupil is hoping to raise £2,000 for the charity which provides support and advice for anyone experiencing mental health problems.

Izzy said: “I am so excited to be trekking the Transylvanian Carpathians in aid of Mind.

"This is definitely out of my comfort zone, but I'm so excited to take on the challenge of trekking 54km over four days.

"The trek is organised by Mind and I saw it advertised on Facebook. The Carpathians are lesser known but still really challenging mountains to trek through, so it sounded like an adventure.

"I've paid for my own trip so all the funds I raise will be going to Mind itself, rather than funding the travel."

Izzy works as a programme co-ordinator for The Access Project, a scheme that supports disadvantaged young people with their university applications.

She mainly works in two schools - Waverley in Small Heath and Colmers in Rednal - and has seen youngsters struggle with mental health issues, so she wanted to help.

Izzy added: "Working in secondary schools, I know firsthand how more awareness around mental health, and better support services, can be life-changing.

"I chose to support Mind because I'm really passionate about the cause.

"I follow their work as a supporter and in my job role I've also championed mental health - doing a mental health first aid course and working with others on my team to improve our strategies to support young people with mental ill health.

"Knowing the money I raise will be used to improve the lives of people living with mental health problems throughout the UK is amazing."

Izzy will be beginning her trek on July 16 - to donate, visit her fundraising page at https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/IsabelFeeney1

The money raised will fund the charity's vital work including the Mind Infoline, advice services and campaigning.

To say thank you to everyone who donates, Izzy will be adding the names of her supporters to her trek jersey, for 'having her back' as she takes on this challenge.
