SEVENTEEN fire fighters battled a 'severe' blaze at a Dudley park last night.

Fire crews were called to Silver Jubilee Park on Mason Street just before 9.30pm last night (April 11) to reports of a fire at building on the car park.

Crews from Dudley, Bilston and Tipton fire stations arrived to find a council-owned ground maintenance building on fire.

Three fire engines and a brigade response vehicle attended the scene, along with the police, Western Power and Dudley Council.

Alan Lunt, Deputy Chief Executive and strategic director for place: “Last night we were advised of a fire at our green care depot building at Silver Jubilee Park. The fire has caused significant damage to both the building and its contents but fortunately no one was hurt.

“We have secured the area to ensure safety of park visitors and are supporting the fire service and police with their ongoing investigations.” 

Police confirmed they are investigating the fire.

A police spokewoman said: "Police are investigating reports of arson at Silver Jubilee Park, Mason Street, Dudley, at around 9pm last night (11 April).

"It is believed offenders set fire to a wheelie bin and pallets, causing damage to an outbuilding.
