IAN Austin MP has demanded government ministers meet with people in Dudley to see the impact of funding cuts to local government.

The independent Dudley North MP stood up in Treasury Questions to ask ministers to meet him and people in the borough to discuss their call for fairer funding for local government.

Ian Austin said: “It isn’t possible to lose that amount of funding without an impact on local people.

“The truth is that cuts in government funding have seen Dudley Council lose over £70 million since 2010, almost halving the money available for local roads, housing, care and other services.

“That’s why I am urging the Government to ensure that Dudley council gets the funding it urgently needs and deserves.”

According to the MP, cuts in in government funding have seen Dudley Council lose £76 million since 2010 and this figure is predicted to rise to £92 million by 2019/20.
