A church will host an information evening about a charity which helps children and families going through a crisis.

St John’s Church in Weymouth will welcome representatives from Safe Families for Children on the evening of Thursday, May 23.

Safe Families for Children is a Christian charity working hand-in-hand with children’s services to link families in need with a network of local volunteers who can offer them support.

Revd Tom Coopey of vicar of St John’s Church said: “They work in partnership with local churches and recruit, train and support volunteers who get alongside a family to offer the support they need. They work around the UK and are about to begin working in Dorset. They have a proven record of delivering highly effective and transformational work amongst families around the country and so this new project is good news for Weymouth and Portland. The information evening on May 23 is a non-committal opportunity to find out more about the charity and how churches and individuals can be involved. All are welcome to attend.”

Safe Families for Children has helped more than 6,000 children since it launched in the UK in 2013.

Safe Families provides Family Friends, Host Families and Resource Friends to help while parents get back on their feet.

The charity’s mission is to improve the outcomes for children and families going through a crisis.

The information event will start at 7.30pm.
