A LIVE hand grenade was discovered in a house in Netherton.

The grenade, which was found to be live by bomb disposal experts, was discovered at a property in Round Street, Netherton on Saturday May 11.

Police placed a cordon around the house after being called at around 10.30am.

A team from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal assessed the device and discovered it was live.

The grenade was then taken to nearby Netherton Park where is was safely deactivated in a controlled explosion.

A police spokesperson said: "A cordon was put in place around a property in Round Street, Netherton after a suspected hand grenade was discovered on Saturday 11 May at around 10.30am.

"EOD assessed the device, which was found to be live. It was taken from the house to a location where it was safely de-activated."
