Fairytale characters got caught up in a brawl at Weymouth train station.

Several men dressed as characters including Snow White and Shrek, believed to be part a a stag party, are believed to have become involved in an incident involving other people at the station.

According to onlookers, there were between 20 and 30 men dressed in costumes as a fight broke out at the train station.

There is no suggestion that the partygoes instigated the fight.

Police officers were called to the scene just before 8.30pm and arrested two men on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly.

Jason Turner, who works at the Park Corner Shop, said he thought the group must have been visiting the town on a stag do.

He said: “The boss asked me to come out and look at what was happening. We saw some of the group scrapping then a few taxi drivers went over to break it up. One of the men looked like he was mouthing off. I could then hear police sirens and four police cars turned up at the station and arrested a couple of them. The police van then came and it looked like a few more were arrested.

“It didn’t seem to last very long, taxi drivers broke it up and within a five minutes police were there. They’re pretty quick with stuff like that, but they’re not around enough. We presumed the group was part of a stag do, one of the men was dressed like Shrek, another as Fiona, and there were a couple of people dressed as Snow White. There must have been some sort of row between them because there were a few flying fists.”

Lakshman Thirunavukharasu of Bon Bons in Weymouth said: “I saw between 20 and 30 men all dressed up. I didn’t see the fight, but I saw police officers arresting people, there were around four to five police cars. One of the men in a blue dress came into the shop afterwards and apologised about the trouble.”

British Transport Police are leading the investigation into what happened.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: “We received a report at 8.20pm on Saturday of a fight at Weymouth station. Two men were arrested; a 35-year-old from Dorset and a 35-year-old from Portland, both on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly.” Both suspects have been interviewed by Dorset Police.

Earlier this month three people were arrested at Weymouth Train Station during an evening of police action. Officers detained two people in relation to drug-related offences while a third people were arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon in an unrelated incident.

Mr Turner added: “Police need to do something, it’s quite a hot spot area. There’s always something happening at the train station. It’s becoming quite a regular thing here.”
