A MOTORBIKE and ambulance have crashed on the A259.

The orange motorbike was on the ground next to the damaged ambulance.

One passerby said: "It looked horrific. The ambulance has a huge gash in the side and the motorbike looked badly damaged too.

"It was near the Sainsbury's in Peacehaven."

A Sussex Police spokesman said: “At 8pm on Thursday we received a call from the ambulance service saying one of their vehicles collided with a motorcyclist.

"We are still investigating. The male was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton with leg injuries.”

His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

The ambulance service said: "We can confirm that one of our vehicles was involved in a collision with a motorbike at approximately 8pm yesterday (23 May) on the A259, South Coast Road, near Saltdean. The ambulance was not on an emergency call and was not carrying any patients.

“The male motorcyclist was injured and additional ambulance crews were sent to the scene. He was treated for injuries including leg injuries before being taken to Royal Sussex County Hospital. The ambulance crew was shaken but uninjured.

“As with any collision involving one of our vehicles, the circumstances will be investigated.

“Our thoughts are with the injured man and we wish him a good recovery.”
