THE founder of a Rhuddlan charity has marked her "cancerversary" by encouraging the community to don their funkiest pairs of socks.

The Osborne Trust's fourth annual Rock Your Socks event took place in schools across Conwy and Denbighshire on Friday, July 5 at Saturday 6.

Rhyl's Ysgol Y Mair, Kinmel Bay's Ysgol Y Foryd, Rhuddlan's Ysgol Y Castell and Castle Day Nursery and Awel Y Mynydd in n Llandudno Junction all held concurrent events to mark the occasion - which always takes place on the weekend before July 10 - of the charity's fifth year of fundraising.

The charity provides children whose parent's are undergoing cancer treatment with recreational activities including cinema trips, bowling and dinners at restaurants.

Founder Emma Osborne, 42 originally of Llandudno Junction, said: “When I was diagnosed with cancer six years ago now I found no support for my two children then aged four and seven. Once I was through treatment I set about starting my own charity and The Osborne Trust was born.

"Rock your Socks came about when I thought about how I coped through treatment, I was bald from the chemotherapy, fatter from the medication and generally felt rubbish but a pair of funky/novelty socks always lifted my spirits and the Rock your Socks day was born."

In addition to the themed uniform day, The Osborne Trust's mascot Ozzy paid a visit to Ysgol Y Foryd in Kinmel Bay where the children learnt about Ozzy’s role in supporting children when their mum or dad has cancer.
