OLDBURY Rep’s final production of this season is the famed musical Sweeney Todd-The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.

Set in Victorian London’s seedy side streets and laced with brilliant wit and dark humour, the musical depicts Sweeney Todd’s savage quest for justice and retribution.

Victim of a gross injustice that led to years of false imprisonment, and robbed him of his wife and child, Sweeney Todd sets about exacting a terrible revenge on society: slitting the throats of the customers who visit his barbershop.

But things are getting complicated – a romance has developed with Mrs Lovett, the lady who runs the failing pie shop next door, and his customers disappearances are starting to cause concern. With the bodies piling up, Sweeney Todd hits upon a novel idea of disposing of them and starts passing on his special ingredient to his delighted neighbour, whose business suddenly takes a turn for the better... Meat pie, anyone!

The production runs in the Rep's Main House. The run started on Saturday July 6 and continues until Saturday July 13, with performances at 7.30pm.

Tickets, at £11, £10 concessions, can be obtained from the box office on 0121 552 2761 on Monday evenings from 7.30pm and every night of the production from 7pm, or can be booked online.
