FLEDGLING business minds from Conwy, Llanfairfechan, Denbigh and Towyn have wowed judges at a national competition.

The enterprising quartet from Coleg Llandrillo's BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Business course scooped a gold and a silver for their app, which helps primary school children with dyslexia, at the Young Enterprise all-Wales final at the University of South Wales - Cardiff campus.

The four business students - including Josh Mantle, 19 from Towyn, John Harding, 19 from Conwy, Grace Jones, 18 from Denbigh and Adam Free, 17 from Llanfairfechan.- formed the company ‘Experiment More’ and won the ‘Innovation Award’ and were just pipped at the post for the main award of the evening, ‘Company of the Year 2019’.

Tutor and programme leader for Business at Coleg Llandrillo, Stephanie Harding, said: "This is one of the best years in terms of results that Coleg Llandrillo has ever had."

Miss Jones, said: “Cardiff was such a big step up from the Conwy competition. We got to interact with people who could really help and push our business forward. This experience has been totally worthwhile as we now have a business up and running.”

They created an app to help primary school children with dyslexia which included a mix of games including a wordsearch, hangman and times tables.

The students, who study at the college's Rhos-on-Sea campus, researched the most beneficial games before liaising with the college’s computing department concerning the creation of the app and placing it on Google Store.

At the North Wales heat, which took place at the Conwy Business Centre in Llandudno Junction, ‘Experiment More’ won awards for ‘Joint Best Company North Wales 2019’ and well as ‘Best Company for Creativity and Innovation North Wales’, which resulted in qualification for the all-Wales finals.

Mr Mantle said: “Team members from ‘Experiment More’ are extremely proud of the results from the all-Wales finals. We knew we had a strong concept, but to come out victorious against such strong opposition was amazing. We have thoroughly enjoyed the experience and have gained a tremendous amount from this amazing opportunity.”
