A POLICE car on an emergency 999 call crashed with another vehicle in Oldbury last night (Tuesday).

The unmarked police vehicle - a silver Audi - was responding to an emergency call when it collided with a blue Ford Mondeo in Wolverhampton Road South at around 8.40pm last night.

The incident has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.

The police car is believed to be used by a firearms team.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said two officers and two people in the other car sustained minor injuries and were taken to hospital for checks.

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We were called to Wolverhampton Road South following reports of a two-car crash.

“Two ambulances, a paramedic officer and a MERIT trauma doctor were sent to the scene.

“Crews treated the patients, all men, and two were taken to hospital with injuries not believed to be serious. "

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: “A police vehicle en route to an emergency incident on blue lights collided with another car at the junction of Wolverhampton Road and Hagley Road West in the Oldbury area of Sandwell just before 9pm last night (Tuesday, August 20).

“Two officers and two people in the other car sustained minor injuries and were taken to hospital as a precaution.

“The incident will be referred to the force’s Professional Standards department as well as the Independent Office for Police Conduct, as is standard procedure with all incidents of this nature.”
