A BRAVE policeman who single-handedly caught three burglars in Halesowen has received a Chief Constable’s Commendation for his actions.
Sergeant Jason Beaumont was first on the scene of a shop burglary at the Cornbow Centre in March last year.
He used his patrol vehicle to block-in their getaway car before chasing the three men back into the building and confronting them on a flight of stairs.
Undeterred by their numerical advantage he contained and arrested the trio.
Fellow officers arrived and arrested two other suspects inside the premises, while a safe containing cash was recovered near to an exit door.
After being caught red-handed, the five men, aged between 22 and 28, admitted burglary and were collectively jailed for more than two years.
Sgt Beaumont was awarded a Chief Constable’s Commendation at a ceremony at Tally Ho earlier this month.
Superintendent Jenny Skyrme, from Force Response, said: "Sgt Beaumont acted with both professionalism and courage to detain suspects on his own before colleagues arrived.
"He quite rightly deserves to be recognised for his actions."
