BROMSGROVE Rugby Club head coach Dan Protherough branded his side's 26-23 defeat to Bridgnorth as an act of stupidity.

Having clawed themselves back onto level terms, Bromsgrove conceded a needless penalty with just two minutes remaining to gift Bridgnorth the win.

Protherough fumed: "We'd worked so hard to get back into the game that to give it away at the end was just stupid!

"Bridgnorth had really come at us for the first 15 minutes and threatened to blow us away.

"They ran in three tries, but thankfully their kicker was off target and missed all three of his conversion attempts.

"As a result, I thought we were a bit lucky to go in at half time only 15-10 down.

"That said, I thought all three of their tries were avoidable but we keep on making errors.

"It seems at the moment, we make one error and then we go onto make more.

"We did well to get back into the game and although we've lost our last two fixtures, I don't think we're far away after making the step up to National three Midlands this season.

"The way we got back into the game against Bridgnorth, who finished fourth last season, was outstanding, but we need to start cutting out the errors."

Hooker James Gunter and right wing Will Trumper crossed for Bromsgrove 's tries, fly-half Will Harris converted both and added three penalties.

Bromsgrove travel to Coventry-based Broadstreet this Saturday when Protherough will hope to have experienced No.8 Drew Harper and scrum-half Ollie Wem available to play.
