THE MAGNIFICENT willow tree overlooking the old moat, better known as the 'duck pond' at Hereford's Castle Green, was diseased and had to be felled.
However, local residents were determined it should be replaced and funded the removal of the old stump to make room for a new tree.
With the support of Hereford in Bloom, a new willow has been planted during National Tree Week by County Councillor Jeremy Milln.
Mo Burns said: "The willow was a much loved tree and had a high amenity value in this historic area. It was so appropriate its replacement was planted in Tree Week".
