PART of the M5 was closed near the junction with the M6 earlier after a body was found on the carriageway.
A man was discovered dead beneath a bridge at around 7am earlier today.
The motorway was closed northbound from Junction 1 at West Bromwich to the end of the motorway at the M6 as a result.
One lane is now open northbound but two remain closed.
The link arm from the M5 north to the M6 south is still closed.
HIghway England said severe delays remain with 10 miles of congestion, with queuing traffic back to J12 near Cannock.
They are urging people to allow plenty of extra time for journeys.
A police spokesman said: "We're investigating after a man's body was found on the M5 under a bridge at around 7am today.
"The death is being treated as unexplained."
A diversion route has been set up following the incident.
