A MAN has died after being struck by a car as it mounted the pavement in Netherton this morning (Saturday, March 7).
Officers were called to Simms Lane just before 10.30am, where a man in his 80s, who had been stood waiting for a bus, suffered serious injuries and died at the scene.
The driver of the Seat Leon which struck the man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after originally fleeing the scene.
Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes, from the West Midlands Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “I am urging anyone who was on the road and saw what happened to contact us if they have not already done so.
“Our enquiries are ongoing and I’d ask anyone who may have dash cam footage to speak to us at the earliest opportunity.
“My thoughts go out to the family of the man who tragically lost his life this morning and specialist officers will now be supporting them at this difficult time.”
