A HALESOWEN couple were 'heartbroken' when their dream wedding was cancelled due to the Covid-19 lockdown.

Joe Howard and Rebecca Cadwallader had spent three years planning their big day for 175 guests at the Chateau Impney in Droitwich.

It was due to take place on Friday June 5, but due to lockdown the couple found out just six weeks before that it would not take place.

They had booked the photographer, ordered the cake, booked the honeymoon, sorted the dress and suits and even bought £200 worth of sweets for a sweet cart.

With the wedding scuppered the couple, who met at Windsor High and have been together for eight years, now have to go back to the drawing board.

Their venue the Chateau Impney has closed down completely and refunded their deposit, while the photographer and honeymoon venue have kept the deposits to rebook for the couple next year.

Joe, aged 25, who runs Joey Howards Market Street Barbers in Halesowen town centre, said: "It's heartbreaking, we booked the wedding three years ago to make it easier to pay for.

"We bought a house in Halesowen last October and the wedding was the next thing on the list to do - it was going to be the icing on the cake

"We had been waiting three years for the wedding - then six weeks before the date it was cancelled.

"We have got £200 worth of sweets we bought for the sweet cart in the wardrobe!

"Rebecca is gutted, but we'll get it rebooked and I'm sure she will enjoy showing me all the magazines again!"
