A POPULAR Christmas light switch event has been cancelled.
The annual Christmas Lights Switch event in Dalton is the latest event to fall victim due to the Covid 19 pandemic.
The festive event usually attracts thousands of people to the town each year.
Dalton with Newton Town Council issued a statement online.
It read: “This is the first time in memory that we have not been able to hold the event and we realise that it will be disappointing but with infection numbers rising in some areas of the country and a predicted ‘second wave’ of the virus expected during the winter months we cannot be complacent and there is no possibility of social distancing adequately.
"If the situation changes closer to November the council will arrange a switch on but this is likely to be a much scaled-down event.”
