The long-awaited and hugely-popular Knives Out has arrived on Amazon Prime for Amazon Prime subscribers, and it is well worth the wait.

Released in 2019, the film drew huge acclaim, much to the relief of writer and director Rian Johnson, who was coming straight off fans’ criticism of The Last Jedi, the second of the Star Wars sequels which he directed.

(This correspondent thinks it’s very good, for what it is worth).

The film starts with a death, and we’re very quickly introduced to the magnificent Daniel Craig with his southern drawl, like a Mississippi Poirot as he seeks to solve a modern twist on a whodunnit.

At the heart of it all is Ama de Armas’s Marta Cabrera, nurse and friend to Christopher Plumber’s Harlan Thrombey, patriarch and purse holder to the rich, but very odd Thrombeys, whose children are led by Jamie Lee Curtis.

The film leads you in different directions, so the twist, when it arrives, is pretty unexpected, and the main performances from Craig, de Armas and the post Captain America Chris Evans all sparkle with a great script.

Some of the supporting characters are not given chance to shine, or in some cases are superfluous, but you can see why so many people loved Knives Out when it debuted.
