Traffic on a busy stretch of motorway had to be stopped this morning after a van set on fire.
Motorists were brought to a halt on the M6 northbound between junction 31A for Preston East/Longridge and junction 32 for the Broughton Interchange at around 10.30am on Wednesday.
Road police and the fire service attended the scene and traffic officers also made their way to the area to assist.
The slip road to the M55 was partially closed while fire crews worked in the carriageway, and traffic began backing up for a few miles, with images showing the long tailbacks beginning to form.
By 12.10pm the vehicle had been recovered however one lane remained closed whilst Highways waited for the carriageway to be inspected.
