A WORCESTERSHIRE man who was going to ride for the Firefighters Charity has had to cancel his event following the recent rise in coronavirus cases.

Sam Cullis was due to ride from Evesham to Gloucester before arriving back in Worcester on September 19 to raise money for the Firefighters Charity.

However, the recent rise in coronavirus cases in the county means he is no longer taking on the challenge.

He said: "I am cancelling the ride this weekend due to the rise in coronavirus cases."

Mr Cullis, from Evesham, was due to be parading through Upton Upon Severn and being joined at different stages by various dignitaries from across the county.

Sadly though, the ride will no longer be taking place, and Mr Cullis said he could not put a date on when it might be held in future.

Mr Cullis would have ridden the 70-mile round trip from Evesham Fire Station to the headquarters of Gloucestershire Fire Service, then coming back to the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Fire service headquarters to round off his trip.

He was hoping to raise up to £10,000 for the charity, which helps firefighters and their families.

Earlier this year Mr Cullis took on a triathlon for the fire service, running two miles, cycling 10 miles and carrying a 25kg bag of cement.

The Firefighters Charity helps provide confidential personalised support to the fire services community including both past and present firefighters, their families and loved ones.
