A police officer was dragged as he held onto the door of a BMW after the car failed to stop.

The car was seen driving off at speed without its light on Fairfax Drive, Westcliff shortly after 8.45pm on Thursday (September 17).

Officers attempted to stop the car.

It stopped in Osborne Road and was blocked in by the police car and a member of the public's van.

As officers got out to speak to the driver, the BMW reversed into the police car.

One of the officers was dragged a short way as he held onto the door.

Fiver other parked cars were also damaged.

The BMW then drove off down Balmoral Road.

Neither officer or any member of the public was injured.

Enquiries remain ongoing and witnesses and anyone with CCTV or dash cam footage are asked to contact Southend CID on 101 quoting reference 1196 of 17 September.
