MOTORISTS are being warned to "plan-ahead" as a major Hampshire road is to shut this weekend.

The Westbound carriageway of the A27 is being closed so repairs can be carried out to a bridge over the railway line.

WHAT PART OF THE ROAD IS CLOSED?

The road, near Cosham and Portsmouth, will be closed between the A2030 Eastern Road roundabout and the Portsbridge roundabout from 9pm on Friday through to 6am on Monday.

WHAT IS THE DIVERSION?

Highways England says that Clearly signed diversions will be in place from the Eastern Road roundabout and junction 5 of the A3(M) via the A2030 Havant Road and A3 Southampton Road to junction 12.

Roads bosses say that some delays are expected, and drivers are advised to plan-ahead allowing extra time for their journeys and consider alternative routes if possible.
