BOTH Bewdley Town and Dudley Sports created club history this week by reaching the Buildbase FA Vase Second Round for the first time.

Sports pulled out all the stops to beat higher ranked Rugby FC from the United Counties League by a 2-1 margin thanks to goals from David Meese and Mathew Vaughan.

Bewdley had a much harder battle on their hands and required a penalty shoot out before putting paid to Staffordshire side Stapenhill who are based near Burton on Trent.

A closely contested game at Ribbesford Meadow resulted with the scores level at 2-2 after 90 minutes before Bewdley held their nerve to win the shoot-out 4-3.

Luke Morris had given Bewdley a flying start by heading home after just two minutes from a Josh Carpenter cross.

Stapenhill struck back to level just after the half hour when Cameron Steel netted with a well struck half volley.

Bewdley went back in front on 56 minutes when Carpenter again set up Morris to score following a free kick from goalkeeper Tom Harper.

Stapenhill finished strongly and levelled again with six minutes remaining through Connor Richins.

But Bewdley made no mistake from the penalty spot, with Morris, Tom Smith, Callum Allchuirch and Carpenter all converting after Harper had saved Stapenhill's opening spot kick.

Stapenhill then fired their fifth penalty wide to send Bewdley through.

Dudley Town returned to West Midlands League Premier Division duty when held to a 1-1 draw by Wolves Sporting Community.

It brought to a halt, the Robins 100 per cent start to the season and the outcome could have been worse when Adam Skeldon headed Wolves Sporting ahead after just six minutes.

The Robins went close on numerous occasions with both Dan Jones and Robert Hanna hitting the post.

Dudley finally levelled thanks to a fabulous finish from Lewis Taylor-Boyce who skillfully lifted the ball home beyond the advancing Wolves Sporting goalkeeper.

Tividale side Smethwick Rangers suffered a seventh straight loss and now find themselves adrift at the bottom after losing 7-0 at Littleton.

Ricardo Richards rifled home a hat-trick while Odane Barnes, Luke Dugmore, Jade Farron and former Stourbridge favourite Ben Billingham added to Rangers woe with further goals.

Rangers remain pointless but will bid to improve that position this Saturday when they visit Wolves Casuals while Dudley Town take a trip to the Sixways Stadium to play high flying Worcester Raiders.

Raiders were forced to relinguish top spot his week as Shifnal Town leapfrogged ahead of them following a 6-0 success over Wolves Casuals.

Unlucky Casuals didn't help their cause by having a player sent off when the game was still goalless.

Shifnal took full advantage, Kyle Montague converting a couple of goals while Jay Holdcroft, Kieron Northwood, Jake Webb and Tom Hill all hitting the target as well, Hill taking his tally to 12 already this season.

The only other Premier Division game to take place saw Wem Town obtain a vital point with a 2-2 draw against Pershore Town.

Cradley Town's proposed contest with Shawbury United was called off but they'll hope for better luck when entertaining Bilston Town this Saturday.

Bewdley Town are back in league action when they take on visiting Wem Town while Dudley Sports host Wednesfield in Brierley Hill.
