POLICE have dropped a murder investigation after the death of a woman in Netherton was found not to be suspicious.

A 44.-year-old woman was found dead at an address in Crossley Street, on Thursday (November 12) at around 12.40pm.

A 38-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder, with the woman’s death being treated as ‘unexplained’.

But now police have confirmed they are no longer treating the incident as murder as a post mortem did not show any "evidence of injuries consistent with an assault or trauma."

The man, who had been taken into custody for questioning, has been released and further pathology checks are set to be carried out to look to establish the cause of the woman's death.

Dudley Police released a statement which said: "Following enquiries the death of a woman in Netherton on 12 November is not being treated as suspicious.

"A post mortem examination on the 44-year-old’s body proved inconclusive, but there was no evidence of injuries consistent with an assault or trauma.

"Further pathology tests will be conducted in order to try to establish the cause of death.

"A 38-year-old man, who was arrested on suspicion of murder, has been released with no further action."

Police were alerted to the incident by paradmedics just before 12.40pm on Thursday.

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said at the time: "We were called to reports of a medical emergency at a property on Crossley Street at 12.22pm.

"Two ambulances and a paramedic officer attended the scene. On arrival we discovered one patient, a woman.

"Sadly, it quickly became apparent nothing could be done to save her and she was confirmed dead at the scene."
