SOME much-needed winter colour is on its way to Upper Gornal.

Councillors and residents in the area have come together once again in a project called 'Upper Gornal in Bloom.'

Flower boxes installed at The Arcade Shopping Precinct and once derelict land on Eve Lane are part of a community project being run by Upper Gornal Councillors Adam Aston and Keiran Casey alongside Oval and Tudor Tenants and Residents Association.

The boxes were installed last Autumn and are part of plan to try and bring some all year round colour to the local shopping precinct.

The boxes were planted over the summer this year with a red, white and blue theme to mark the 75 years since VE and VJ Day.

Joan Porter from Oval and Tudor Tenants and Residents Association said: ” "The new flower boxes look fantastic all planted up. Hopefully this will provide some much needed colour and something positive for us all during these very difficult times".

Councillor Keiran Casey said: "Although this may seem like a small thing, it does make a massive difference and lots of local residents have said it's great to see".

"This year has been extremely difficult and we are hoping these flower boxes once they are in bloom will be something we can all be positive about ."
