FAMILIES wishing to get personal items to a loved one in Russells Hall Hospital can now have them collected from their home and delivered for free.

The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust has set up the scheme while visiting is not permitted due to risk of spreading Covid-19 during the pandemic.

The trust’s volunteer service can collect personal possessions or small items of equipment from the patient’s home and get them to the patient on the ward.

Chief executive Diane Wake said: “This is a really thoughtful initiative which will allow our patients to safely enjoy some ‘home comforts’ while sadly they cannot have visitors at the moment.

“I have been really proud of how our volunteers have stepped up during the pandemic, helping out around the trust and also with the vaccination programme.

"They have chosen to give up their time to help others and it is very much appreciated by staff and patients.”

Items must be small enough to fit easily in a car and the service is for all patients, not only those with Covid-19. It is available between 8am and 6pm Monday to Friday, and 10am and 6pm - Saturday and Sunday.

People can call 01384 456111 extension 3553 to request a volunteer driver.
