A LOCAL volunteer who has been supplying treats for hardworking key workers and NHS staff across Dudley is appealing for help to keep up the work as the group’s cash runs low.

Stourbridge-based Leslie’s Carte Packages (LCP)was originally set up to help the area’s homeless, but has since branched out into supporting all sorts of local good cause.

Vi Wood set up the voluntary group in memory or her husband Leslie – hence the name – and has been relying on public support to keep going since her first public appeal in August 2016.

Dudley News:

Vi’s mission is to provide much needed provisions, such as food, toiletries, sleeping bags, and clothing to homeless and other disadvantaged people. It gets no public funding

“During the Covid19 crisis, I found that increasing numbers of people were struggling and in need of help.

“I have been collecting and distributing food parcels for families struggling financially; shopping for those who were self-isolating; and donating treats to NHS Staff and Key Workers.

“LCP received more referrals than ever from the local authorities and other charities.”

Since the first lockdown last March 2020 LCP has distribution 234 chocolate bunnies to NHS staff; raised £150 to help replace stolen bikes for the children of a local community project; distributed 30 care packages to homeless victims; and provided new toys for the 5th birthday of a local child with Downs Syndrome.

But funds to keep helping are running short, so Vi is renewing her appeals for support/

“The local community have been amazing in answering my calls for help. They have made such a difference to people’s lives. It has restored my faith in humanity. Thank you to everyone who has donated and supported us during such a difficult time.”
