POLICE have issued CCTV images after a robbery in the Tipton area in which a man punched a member of the public who tried to stop him stealing cans of fish.

The incident happened at Heron Foods in Great Bridge, at around 5.40pm on February 24.

Police say the offender placed tins of fish in a carrier bag and attempted to run from the shop with them, but was stopped by a man who witnessed the theft.

The man was punched twice in the face after he attempted to grab the bag off the offender and fell backwards - hitting his back on a metal crate.

West Midlands Police are now urging anyone who recognises the man in the images to contact officers via Live Chat at west-midlands.police.uk (8am to midnight) or call 101 anytime, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, and quote crime number 20SW/55774H/21.
