The battle for league supremacy in one of two Beacon Sunday sections looks set to go down to the wire after Woodside Inn won a crucial clash at leaders Sedgley Sporting this week, writes Dave McLean.

At the start of what was a big weekend in the Concentric Sales & Lettings Western Division, Sedgley held a vital three point advantage over Kingswinford based Woodside and their encounter was very much a tightly contested affair.

Both sides had first half opportunities to break the deadlock, but it remained goalless until the 55 minute when Adam West pounced to meet a near post cross and give Woodside a vital advantage.

There was little to choose between the two sides and, despite having a player dismissed for two bookable offences, Woodside were the side celebrating on the final whistle, having drawn level on points with Sedgley.

Both sides have two fixtures remaining and goal difference currently favours Sedgley, who visit ninth place Sedgley Rangers this Sunday, with Woodside entertaining AFC Sporting Gornal in tenth spot.

CTS United, who latest fixture at home to Wrens Nest Rangers was called off due to a positive Covid case in the former's camp, remain in contention for top honours but may have to win all four remaining games to grab the title.

Blades FC, with one fixture to play, moved into the top three with a hard fought 2-1 success at Sporting Black Country, hitting back to cancel out a early Ebou Touray opener to take maximum points thanks to Dan Hadley and Todd Ferrier. The visitors are three points down on the top two.

Both Netherton Tigers and Dudley Rangers United missed an opportunity to move within two points of the leaders duo after meeting and sharing four goals.

The Tigers grabbed a fifth minute lead through Kirk Fellows, before Albie Turner levelled just after the break. Fellows restored Netherton's lead with his second, only for Turner to find the target again to force the draw.

Four goal Grant Davies stole the show for AFC Sporting Gornal as they chalked up a third league triumph, sinking visiting Coseley FC 8-3. He was well supported by single efforts from   Michael Parker, Jordan Robinson, Shane Ellim and Lewis Davies.

Trysull Athletic moved second on goal difference in the Paycare Eastern section after blasting Compton 12-0, with Will Spruce bagging five. The round dozen was completed by Dom Constable, Dan Hickman (both two), Jordan Darby, Steve Ruckuss and Aaron Bolton.
