A WELL-KNOWN Italian opera star is set to make his UK debut in Sedgley.
Simone Francesco Liconti from Bergamo, Italy is set to perform at The Mill Theatre at Dormston School.
The show, titled ‘Be My Love’ is a tribute to another well-known operatic, Mario Lanza who created popular ballads during the 1940s and 50s.
The shows organiser, Tara Kelsey will also be performing with Simone. She said: “It has been a dream of mine and project in the making for the last three years with lots of hard work, so to be finally staging a concert such as this is amazing.
"Mario Lanza was known for bringing opera to the people. The whole essence of this event is to do just that bring opera to the local people of the Midlands who just don't get to experience such an opportunity, on their doorstep.
"The event will prove to be a unique and very special concert for Mario fans and lovers of great Italian opera and the popular ballads of the 40's /50's that the wonderful Lanza brought to the hearts of so many."
The show is set to go ahead on September 9 at 7:30pm after it was originally scheduled for last August but was cancelled due to the covid pandemic.
Tara added: “I have been to Italy over the past few years and collaborated with Simone but this will be our first time performing together.
“He has said he cannot wait to come to England, and it will be a great honour.
“No one in the industry has been able to perform, and I know some people have been live streaming but there’s nothing more special than the feeling of the presence of the audience.”
