WORCESTER’S pubs are getting ready to battle through the last of restrictions when punters can finally take a seat inside from Monday.

Prime minister Boris Johnson announced this week that Covid rules would be relaxed as planned from May 17, allowing indoor hospitality to resume.

Rules stating a maximum of six people from no more than two households can mix and over table service and face coverings remain in place but boozers are bullish about the future.

Marston’s has confirmed that all of its pubs across Worcester will be able to reopen for both indoor and outdoor service.

They include The Barn Owl in Warndon, The Prince of Wales in Warndon, Crown Powick in Powick, The Blackpole in Blackpole Road, New Inn in Claines, Punchbowl in Ronkswood, The Oak Apple on Spetchley Road, Eagle Vaults in Friar Street, The Virgin Tavern on Tolladine Road, Kings Head in Sidbury, Blue Bell in Callow End and The Rose & Crown in Severn Stoke.

Table service will take place but customers at most pubs can use an online ordering system called Marston’s Tap.

Customers can book a table prior to their visit but walk-ins are welcome for both food and drink. The outdoor facilities which opened in April are still available.

Marston’s CEO Ralph Findlay said: “It’s fantastic that our pubs can reopen. Over the past few weeks, we have seen people visit pub gardens, come rain or shine, for the pure enjoyment of socialising with friends and family.

“Our teams can’t wait to fully open the doors and welcome back guests, it’s been a long time coming and we encourage everyone to safely visit and support their local.”

The Northwick Arms, Vine Street, Worcester, might not be a fan of the rules but urged customers to adhere to them for one last stint ahead of Monday.

The pub’s Facebook post read: “As we get ready for inside meeting again sadly there will still be restrictions.

“Table service only, you must register and face coverings (must be worn) when moving around and no sitting at the bar.

“Hopefully in June face coverings and rule of six will no longer be in place. I hate the mask and I know many of you also feel the same but we have come this far so let’s continue looking after each other.”
