A HISTORIC windmill in Gornal is throwing open its doors on Saturday, October 9 to allow resident’ an insight into the extraordinary building.

Ruiton Windmill on Vale Street is home to a host of community groups who want to share their activities with neighbours and bring together a new group of friends of the mill.

The day will see amateur radio demonstrations, kids’ activities, and performances from 12:20pm.

David Bowdley, Ruiton Windmill trustee said, “We’re really proud of our amazing community venue and would like it to be used and supported by even more local people.

"Our open day is a great way for people to find out more about us and find out how they can get involved.”

People can also find out about Dudley Caving Club, look at some of the history of the mines with the former Dudley Cave Rescue Team and investigate paranormal activity with a local group Paranormal Hauntings Investigations.

Ruiton Windmill Preservation and Development Trust is a registered charity that manages the windmill in Upper Gornal.

The charity rents out the facility to several groups and is asking anyone who would like to use the building to attend the open day.
