FREE CPR training is being offered to Brierley Hill traders and residents after a town butcher managed to save a woman's life by rushing to her aid after she suffered a cardiac arrest.

Heroic Gordon Tranter of Alan Warwick Butchers jumped in and began carrying out CPR on the woman as best he could despite never having received any formal training.

He just remembered what he'd seen on TV and luckily his impromptu lifesaving efforts kept the woman alive until paramedics arrived with a defibrillator.

Courageous Gordon has since received awards from West Midlands Ambulance Service and Brierley Hill councillor Adam Davies for his brave efforts.

Cllr Davies has also now laid on free CPR training for all traders and residents in the town in case such an emergency should ever happen again.

A training session will be held at Brierley Hill Civic Hall from 6.30pm to 8pm on Tuesday October 19.

Cllr Davies said: "Without any training at all, Gordon, our heroic butcher from Alan Warwick Butchers on the Moor Centre, saved a life earlier this year by stepping up and giving CPR to a lady who suffered a cardiac arrest outside of his shop.

"The goal of this session is to make sure more local people are equipped with the knowledge and confidence to step up and act as Gordon did.

"I really want to give a big thank you to both Brierley Hill Civic Hall and Andy Jeynes from West Midlands Ambulance Service who have offered their services free-of-charge to make this training event possible."
