A PLANNING application to build eight new town houses in Kidderminster has been lodged.
The proposed two-bedroom homes would be built on a car park off Prospect Hill if approved.
Historically, the car park was previously the site of 11 terraced houses, which were demolished around the late 1930s.
Estate agents Cattell & Young used the site as a small private car park and built their furniture sale rooms there, which were demolished in the early 70s.
The carpark was then expanded to its current size and continued to be used as private parking.
In July 2019, the carpark was leased to SIP Carparks Ltd who ran it as a private paying carpark, but the firm left the site in June 2021.
The loss of the car park is not expected to affect parking provision in the town centre according to developers.
A total of six car parking spaces for the homes form part of the plans as well as 16 cycle spaces with a secure shelter.
The planning statement says: "The development proposed would enhance and rejuvenate this area of the town centre by removing the barren car park area.
"It would integrate well with the current adjacent terraced houses and would not impact on future development proposed for the area.
"There would also be a gain in bio diversity and help towards providing much needed low cost housing in the area."
