SHOPPERS are urged to support small businesses across the Dudley borough this weekend as part of a national initiative during the festive season.

Saturday December 4 is Small Business Saturday and Dudley Council bosses are hoping people doing their Christmas shopping will help to support the borough's smaller businesses - from craft stores to markets, coffee shops to hair and beauty boutiques - while shopping for gifts.

Councillor Simon Phipps, the council's cabinet member for regeneration and enterprise, said: "Small businesses across Dudley borough are working really hard to provide the best products and services for shoppers.

"With Christmas just around the corner, it’s the perfect time for us to support our local businesses and discover something new. I’d urge people to go local if they can."

People can support their favourite small business by popping in store, purchasing through their online shop or sharing their posts on social media.

Small businesses can promote their wares and services by tagging @DudleyBusiness1 and #SmallBizSatUK into social media posts or visit dudleybusinessfirst.org.uk/support-local and smallbusinesssaturdayuk.com to read more on the campaign.

Council owned car parks in town centres are offering two hours of free parking this Saturday, and free all-day parking will be available on all council car parks on December 11 and 18 to help boost local trade.
