A WARNING of a “severe weather event” for snow in the West Midlands has been issued by National Highways.

The alert for snow was issued between 10am this morning (January 6) and 6pm on Friday evening, covering the West Midlands and the north of England.

It comes as the Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings for snow and ice across much of the northern UK.

The West Midlands has not yet been issued with a yellow weather warning from the Met Office, but drivers have been urged to take care when out and about.

National Highways has advised drivers in the West Midlands to check the weather conditions and road conditions before travelling.

Drivers are also advised to take extra care and allow plenty of time for travelling.
