WORK is almost complete at Dudley’s new £18 million leisure centre which is set to open at the end of the month.

The Duncan Edwards Leisure Centre in Constitution Hill is due to open to the public on Monday, January 24.

The eagerly anticipated flagship centre forms part of a £31.3 million project across the borough’s leisure services which includes the refurbishment of Halesowen Leisure Centre and Crystal Leisure Centre in Stourbridge.

Councillor Simon Phipps, cabinet member responsible for leisure centres, said he is delighted the council has been able to produce such an ‘outstanding leisure facility.’

The Duncan Edwards Leisure Centre is located opposite the soon to be Metro line with a stop on Flood Street, a one-minute walk away.

Cllr Phipps said: “The facilities it boasts are second to none and I am sure new and existing visitors to our leisure centres will be overwhelmed with what we have to offer.

"It’s the first new leisure centre we have built in the borough since Crystal in Stourbridge in 1990 – that was before I was even born!"
