A GROUP of residents from Dudley are tackling the town's rubbish by forming a litter picking group.

The ‘Keep Our Community Clean’ project is being run by community campaigners Keiran Casey and Adrian Hughes alongside Councillor Adam Aston and residents.

The group are set to regularly litter pick on the Greens Estate and Wrens Nest, with the Sycamore Adventure Centre being the key meeting location.

Community campaigner Keiran Casey said: “It’s great to see local residents come together to spend a few hours making the area a cleaner and nicer place for all, and what a difference this can make.

“On the first pick we have done we filled over half a dozen bin bags full to the top with litter from alleyways and local green spaces, including a chair that had been dumped.

“Litter is one of the biggest issues local people are concerned about, so I wanted to work with local residents to launch the ‘Keep Our Community Clean’ project, bring local people together for regular picks and also use the group to push the council for improvements such as more litter and dog waste bins locally."

The aim of the newly formed group is to tackle the nuisance of litter across the area, and also work together to push the council for improvements, such as more litter and dog waste bins on the estates.

Resident Donna Haddock said: "We were contacted by Keiran about this project and whether we would want to be involved to help out, which we had no hesitation in saying yes to.

“Doing these picks for an hour or so really does make a big difference to the local area, just by tidying up some of our green spaces and local alleyways that are well used and that we should all look after."
