NHS dental patients are to be offered weekends and nighttime appointments as dentists try to tackle the backlog built up by the pandemic.

This comes after it was last week revealed that NHS Herefordshire and Worcestershire CCG saw an eight per cent drop in the number of dentists.

The staff shortage has only heightened problems brought about by Covid.

To combat this, the NHS has announced more than 350,000 additional dentist appointments, and £50 million of funding to be awarded to NHS dental services, across the country.

Shawn Charlwood of the British Dental Association said: "This is progress but must be just the start if we are to rebuild a service millions depend on."
